2025 Bangdong Ancient Tree Yellow Leaf
The “Sweet and Gentle Wild Charm” of Lincang’s Secret Realm, a Tender Gift from Centuries-Old Trees
The name “Yellow Leaf” originates from the Pu’er tea sorting process, referring to old leaves that are coarse and loose, with an imperfect shape after rolling, characterized by their yellowish color. Legend has it that the tea used by Shennong to detoxify was ancient tree old yellow leaf tea. Inspired by this, Taiwanese tea enthusiasts named it “Shennong’s One Leaf Drift,” enriching it with cultural significance. Bangdong Yellow Leaf is specially selected from ancient tea trees over 200 years old in Bangdong Township, Lincang, continuing the legacy recorded in the late Qing Dynasty’s Mianning County Gazetteer that praised the “Malu (Manglu) and Xigui (Xigui) teas” as superior in color and flavor compared to other tea-producing areas.
Located in Bangdong Township, Lincang City, Yunnan, at the confluence of the Lancang River and the Daxueshan Mountains, at an altitude of 750 meters (a rare low-altitude premium tea region in Yunnan).
The tea area lies between the southern slopes of Daxueshan and the Lancang River, enveloped year-round in mist, with a day-night temperature difference exceeding 12°C. The mineral-rich red soil is highly permeable. Ancient tea trees coexist with forests, with a humus soil layer over 1 meter thick, boasting the highest organic matter content in Lincang. The tea soup carries “fine suspended particles,” a mark of ecological vitality.
With tree ages exceeding 200 years and girths between 60–110 cm, the leaves are thick and resilient. The 2025 early spring Yellow Leaf selects the third leaf, with a pectin content as high as 32%, giving the tea soup a “honey-like oily smoothness.”
| Initial Taste | Bright clear yellow liquor, silky smooth on entry; salivation springs on the tongue’s side; wild floral aroma fills the mouth
| Middle Taste | Tea soup thick like honey, richness ascending; cooling sensation straight through the chest, tongue coated in rock sugar sweetness, like sunlight piercing forest gaps
| Aftertaste | Honey and woody aromas blend; sweet aftertaste surges like a tide; rock韵 sweet sensation in the throat, warming body feeling with slight palm sweat
| Finish | Dominated by clear sweetness; leaves release fresh herbal fragrance, lingering like bamboo dew dripping on moss
